5-Day Pretox Challenge 2016 – Day 3

Here we are passing the halfway mark already. It’s wonderful, but at the same time quite sad, because I’m really getting into the swing of things.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been running around doing festive things all day; going to the market, attempting to tidy my flat (unfotunately something of a lost cause), and getting some prep done for my festive food, as well as fitting in some of my regular teaching work.  So all in all, I’ve had to be very disciplined with myself to stay on track.  It would have been so much easier to buy food when I was shopping, and the smell of street food in the market really was very tempting.

Nevertheless, I resisted, and came home for some leftover meatball soup.  This evening I’m munching my way through minced chicken (you could, of course, use veggie mince, in which case this dish would be suitable for both vegetarians and vegans) in lettuce cups with an Oriental salad.  Unfortuntately my attempts to film myself making it ended in disaster when my lens got too steamed up to continue.

Incidentally, the salad is perfect for a lunchbox.  Just put the salad and the mince in separate containers and add a little gem lettuce to your lunchbox. Then assemble the salad before you eat.  You will be the envy of your colleagues.  Soups are also pretty useful for workplace lunches; just put them in a flask before you leave and you have an instant hot lunch. Accompany them with houmous or mashed avocado with raw vegetables if you need something more substantial or if, like me, you like several tastes and textures in your meal.

You may be wondering how I managed to stop myself eating out, even though I was very hungry.  I thought about all of you, and how I couldn’t bear to let you down.  What I’m saying is that if you are trying to do something difficult, it helps to have a compelling motivation.

So whatever you want to achive in 2017, I really recommend thinking about why you want it.  I mean REALLY why you want it.  When you know, write it down.  This goes for a personal goal or a business goal.  You can keep it to yourself or share it with others according to what suits your personality.  Personally, I find being accountable to others hugely irritating, but you may find it motivating.  Always do what works for you.

Tomorrow I’ll be talking about how to survive the festivities. Until then, take good care, and happy eating!
